Wind power blade pultrusion process

As a green and environment-friendly energy, wind energy is one of the most promising renewable energy sources. With the development and maturity of wind power technology, the model has reached more than 5MW, and the blade length is more than 60 meters. The application of pultruded board in the blade industry. The main beam of the blade (also called the beam cap or girder) is the main load-bearing part or the main structural part of the wind power blade. The blade is one of the key components of the wind turbine. Large size, complex shape, high precision requirements, and high requirements for strength, rigidity, and surface smoothness.

1) The pultrusion process ensures a high fault tolerance rate of the product.
In the past, regardless of whether the infusion process or prepreg was used for production, if there was a defect in the production process, the impact on the main beam would be fatal. For example, the main girder is 80 meters long and 60 cm wide. As long as there is a defect, this main girder will pose a safety hazard.
However, if a pultruded board is used to produce the main beam, if there is a problem or defect in a certain pultruded board during the production process, the pultruded board can be scrapped and replaced with a new pultruded board. As a result, even if there is a problem with the main beam of the blade during the assembly process, it only needs to replace the problematic pultruded board, and it will not affect other pultruded boards. The cost of scrapping a pultruded panel is much lower than scrapping the whole girder.

2) The pultrusion process makes the structure of the main beam stronger.
Because of the fiber content of the pultrusion process, how much yarn and resin to use can be controlled and adjusted. The yarn content can reach 70% (volume content), but the yarn content of vacuum infusion can only reach 60%. The higher the fiber content, the better the mechanical properties or load-bearing state of the main beam.

The technical situation of pultruded beams: divided by resin, most manufacturers now use epoxy resin technology. At the same time, everyone is actively developing the pultrusion process of polyurethane. Compared with epoxy resin, polyurethane resin has a lower price and is more suitable for the downward trend of the installed price of wind power industry in the future. However, in a short period of time, polyurethane resin has higher requirements on materials and moisture content in the air. In the next 3 to 4 years, epoxy resin will still be the mainstream.
