How does a Pultrusion Machine Work?

In this article, we mainly introduce the pultrusion machine’s working principles.

What is pultruded fiberglass?

Pultruded fiberglass rods are made from a composite of polyester resin and fiberglass. Their unique properties make them suitable for a wide range of applications in various industries, such as manufacturing, construction, utilities, automotive, telecommunications, and more.

What does pultrusion mean?

Pultrusion is a manufacturing process that converts reinforcing fibers and liquid resins into fiber-reinforced plastics, also known as fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP).

Pultrusion process

1. FRP pultrusion: The reinforcing materials used in the pultrusion process are mainly glass fiber and its products, such as roving and glass fiber mats. Glass fiber, and carbon fiber basalt fiber can also be used to meet the product’s special performance requirements.

2. Pultrusion is a method of forming thermosetting composite materials, the profiles will come out continuously from the mold and go through a continuous production process. The direct roving first passes through the resin and then is extruded into the pultrusion equipment mold with FRP pultrusion equipment, FRP hydraulic pultrusion equipment or FRP crawler pultrusion machine, polyurethane pultrusion equipment, and carbon fiber pultrusion equipment, and the resin is heated in the pultrusion equipment mold. Cure and finally come out. The cutting machine will cut FRP pultruded profiles to fixed lengths.

We can divide the pultrusion process into two simple steps:

The next length of impregnated fiber is pulled out, solidified in a hot mold, and then pulled out of the mold. The main feature of this process is that the molding material is heated and cured in the mold, and the curing time is fixed. However, the production efficiency is much higher than that of manual pultrusion profiles, and quality control is easier in the molding production of composite materials with good surface properties. FRP products are cut at fixed lengths and sent to CNC for final processing.

What is the difference between FRP pultrusion and carbon glass pultrusion?

Carbon fiber composite pultruded materials are widely used in military or civilian fields and have broad application prospects. Carbon fiber can be divided into 1K, 3K, 6K, 12K, 24K, 48K, 60K, and 80 K.
K=1000
For example 40K=40000 pieces of microfiber.

The carbon pultrusion process is different from the ordinary glass fiber pultrusion process. The main difference is in the design of carbon fiber creel and resin tank and prefabricated parts, we will thicken it after curing to avoid cracking of carbon fiber profiles. Carbon fiber creel: The carbon fiber needs to enter the pultrusion die in parallel, and the tension must be the same for each.

Raw materials for pultrusion?

Roving
Electronic glass: It is the most widely used in pultrusion technology. It has good electrical insulation and mechanical properties, the disadvantage is that it is not suitable for use in acidic environments.
C-glass: The advantage is that the acid resistance is better than that of E-glass, but the electrical properties and mechanical strength are only 10%-20% lower than that of E-glass. In general, most pultruded profiles do not use this glass. Generally speaking: pultruded roving is used to make complex profiles with the same cross-section, and pultruded products can greatly improve the unidirectional strength.

Resin

The most common pultrusion resins are as follows:
Unsaturated polyester resin
vinyl ester resin
Phenolic Resin
epoxy resin
Methacrylic acid and other resins
extruded fiberglass An action being performed by a machine.

Pultruded fiberglass tube is the action being performed by a machine, or a formed tube that has been extruded by a machine.
